Susie’s Juicing Experience

Many clients and friends have asked me if I have ever “juiced” –  and up until about a week ago my answer was, No.  However it is something I’ve always wanted to try especially with the ever growing popularity of Joe Cross (Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead).

So I bought a juicer, lots of produce, used Joe Cross’s basic juice recipes and gave it a try!

I made 3 different juices, I figured if I was going to fully experience juicing and make a mess I might as well do it all at once!

I washed and assembled the Juicer and put a plastic bag in the container to catch pulp.

Then I started with the first recipe – I doubled/tripled everything I made.

The juice keeps up to 48 hours refrigerated.

Breakfast: Carrot Apple Ginger Juice

3 carrots

2 apples

1-in ginger

Mean Green Juice was next:

Mean Green Juice

1 cucumber

4 celery stalks

2 apples

6 to 8 leaves kale

1/2 lemon

1-in ginger

Finally I made a Citrus/Green juice.  I used oranges instead of clementines:

Citrus Inspired Green Juice

6-8 leaves kale

8 leaves Swiss chard

1 cucumber

6 clementines

I was able to use Chard and Kale from my Tower Garden!

Then it was time for clean up!  From start to finish it took me about an hour and 15 minutes (which included unpacking the juicer from the box).

I spent about $15 on all of the produce from the produce market on the corner and made enough juice for 2 1/2 days.

The first day I drank all juice and had some soup for dinner.

The next day I drank all juice and had a protein drink

I have to say that I felt great, my energy level was fine and I enjoyed the experience.

I’ve continued to make a few batches of juice each week – it’s another great way to get veggies!

I think it is important to point out that when you hear the word “‘juicing” it doesn’t automatically mean FRUIT juice.  100% fruit juices are loaded with sugar.  The green juices that I made did have one fruit included (either apple or orange) but were mostly vegetables.  And really tasty!
