Have You Set Any Goals? – Day 15

We are half way through the first month of the new year. Did you set goals for 2015?  If so, did you write them down? If you didn’t don’t worry about it because no matter when you take the time to stop and write down your goals it’s still going to make a difference for you!

A study of Harvard graduates showed that only 3% of graduates (from 1979) had clear written goals   Whether the goals are related to your business, your health, your personal life –  writing down your goals will make you more likely to achieve them.  Get out your paper and pen (or open up a word processing document on your computer) RIGHT NOW!

It is usually the First of the year is when you try to change everything and you write down all your goals for the year. And that makes sense because many people, especially in business, calculate income and goals on an annual basis from January to December.  Guess what? –  not all companies are like that and not all people need to be like that either.

I have a two times a year that I do a lot of the major goal setting for my life. One is in January because it is the start of the fiscal year for my business and my second one is in August which is my birthday month. I like to reflect on what happened in the previous year and what I have planned before my next birthday.  August also represents a really important time in my life of starting over and having new goals because it was when I moved to California. Certainly that can’t really be a coincidence!

I moved to California after 12 years of an alcoholic / abusive marriage.  I was able to start my own company and the serendipity of opportunity has been mind blowing for the past 8 years.  I actually celebrate my entire birthday month, not just my birth date – not only is it a lot of fun and a reason to gather family and friends all month long, but it’s a wonderful reminder of what a celebration life is and how thankful I am for everything that has happened the year before.

Last year I actually ended up with an additional time of goal setting and reflection because of a book I read.  I was reading The Magic by Rhonda Byrne, author of The Secret.  It’s a great book about Gratitude.  In the very first chapter it said, write down what you really want in all areas of your life. This was in June and I was on a airplane coming back from a TV appearance in Denver so rather than skipping ahead to keep reading I spent the entire flight writing down my goals, dreams and plans.  It was more than about my health and business, I wrote down the people I wanted to become better friends with; how many books I wanted to read.  It was so much fun and I’ve seen so many things already happen!

Goal setting is part of Planning, Positive Mindset and the total YOU.
