Go Weekend Warriors! – Day 10

I can’t emphasize enough how important activity is on your road to being Healthy & Happy.  Many people cram their weekdays so full that they don’t squeeze in time to get some exercise and then use the weekend to ‘relax.’ I’d like to encourage you to actually become a Weekend Warrior.

Webster’s definition of Weekend Warrior is:

– a member of the military reserves who trains on the weekends and for a few weeks every year

– a person who does a particular activity (such as a sport) only on the weekends

If you don’t work on the weekends or whatever days you have off – take advantage of that extra time and schedule a longer exercise session.  On Day 2 I gave you a quick set of exercises that you can do EVERY DAY and will take 5-10 minutes.  Take a look at your weekend schedule – I bet that you can find 30-45 minutes to devote to yourself.  Find a buddy or a group activity.  I have a Meet Up group – Living Healthy is Fun, and a few weekends a month I’ll schedule a walk or run – you may want to see what you can find in your area!

WEEKEND WARRIOR IDEAS:

Warm weather:

  • 9 hole par 3 round of golf
  • Badminton in the back yard or park – you don’t need a net!
  • Bocce Ball or lawn bowling
  • Power walk or Run combined with regular walk; 1-3 miles
  • Football or baseball toss during HALFTIME
  • 5 mile bike ride
  • Pick up game of softball, baseball or hoops
  • Tennis match
  • Longer hike

Cold weather:

  • Skiing – downhill or cross country
  • Snow shoeing or a longer hike
  • Ice skating, or pick up hockey game

If it’s too cold there are great indoor options for all climates:

  • Go to an exercise class! Try something new – Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, Boot Camp
  • Walk the Mall or other Big Box store
  • Go dancing
  • Check out your cable “on demand” for free Fitness videos or You Tube

Get up off the coach during halftime!  Do some stretching or job in place.

REAL LIFE TODAY:  I was watching my Alma Mater, North Dakota State University, playing in the NCAA FCS Division 1 Football National Championship (4th year in a row) and bring half time I ran up and down the block!

AND WE WON – 4th Straight Championship!  Go BISON!
