It’s DAY TWO of the new year! And, coincidentally, Day 2 of my blog this month – 31 Days to Being Healthy & Happy!
Did you exercise yesterday like you planned? If so, congratulations! If not, let me suggest a new word for your Healthy & Happy vocabulary… ACTIVITY!
I find that many of my clients and colleagues view “exercise” as a chore, a task, drudgery…the list goes on. However, the word activity doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to the gym and zoning out on a treadmill or trying to be coordinated in an exercise class or motivating yourself to do all of the circuit weight machines- it means do SOMETHING to get your heart rate up and your blood flow going.
If you haven’t exercised or been active in a number of years, be sure to get your physician’s approval before starting any exercise program. And also, you want to gradually add activity so that you don’t get so sore you can’t do anything for several days. All activity counts – it could be yard work, going to the grocery store, dancing to a favorite song, walking your dog; anything! – just get up and get going!
Try this fast and easy routine:
20 Low Impact Jumping Jacks – Full arms above head motion and alternate each foot out to the side; no jumping
10 Wall Push-ups – Place your hands on the wall, feet angled back and push off the wall
10 Chair Squats – Basically sit and stand up 10 times
20 more Low Impact Jumping Jacks
Something as quick as that will elevate your heart rate and keep your metabolism up for 30-60 minutes. YAY!
